CPL Patrick Dayton served in the Army Reserves for ten years. While reporting for Reserve duty in June of 2022 he was struck on his right side by a motor vehicle, ejected off his motorcycle, and came to a stop approximately 100 feet from point of impact. The accident resulted in the amputation of his right leg below the knee. For rehabilitation Dayton went to the Center for the Intrepid at Joint Base San Antonio in Texas, and after became a resident at the Joint Base Lewis McChord SRU for one year. Dayton said he learned that being a warrior meant never giving up and finding new ways to achieve. Then, he learned about adaptive sports. While there, he found adaptive sports, and participated in Army Trials in 2023, where he was selected to represent Team Army at Warrior Games that same year. He says: “Being an amputee is life changing, Warrior Games gave me back what I missed most from the military way of life.” He is married and a father of a two-year-old daughter.
