Lydia Bearing Figary faced a life-altering event in July 2022 when a parachute accident led to a long and challenging recovery. By September 2023, she was transferred to Wounded Warrior Battalion-West, where her healing journey truly gained momentum. Participating in the Warrior Athlete Conditioning Events has played a critical role in her recovery, offering not only physical rehabilitation but also a supportive community that has uplifted her mentally and emotionally. The positive environment created by trainers, coaches, and fellow athletes has been transformative, providing Lydia with the motivation and support she didn’t realize she needed. This is her first year competing in both the Marine Corps Trials and Warrior Games, experiences she approaches with enthusiasm and gratitude. Outside of recovery, Lydia loves outdoor adventures, with hiking, surfing, and rock climbing among her favorite hobbies.

What does the Invictus Games mean to you?

Being a part of Team U.S. Military Invictus is such a great honor to represent my country and show the world the determination and spirit of our military members. It has been a crucial part of my recovery journey from my accident, giving me a sense of purpose and camaraderie with fellow servicemen and women. This journey has truly shown me the power of resilience and the unbreakable bond within the military community.
