SPC Bryce Ewing is a seven year veteran of the U.S. Army who medically retired out of Ft. Stewart’s SRU in 2017. She credits the Fort Stewart SRU for making all the difference in her recovery. They took a holistic approach in each soldier’s road to recovery. SPC Ewing stated “I truly wish I had been transferred to the unit earlier”. They had dedicated barracks and transportation to and from appointments and the appropriate medical staff close in case of an emergency. The SRU cared about her recovery, also prepared her for transition by placing her in internships!. SPC Ewing is thankful for all the help from the SRU. After recovering from breast cancer her life changed in many ways. Losing a major chest muscle made it difficult to perform her soldier duties. Ewing participated in Army Trials in 2024. She said that adaptive sports not only proves to herself and her kids, she can overcome anything but also spreads awareness and gives other Soldiers hope and encouragement to keep fighting no matter what.

What does the Invictus Games mean to you?

Getting selected for the Invictus Games ’25 as an athlete, military member, and now a proud member of team United States is an honor. It shows my family, friends, and brothers and sisters in arms my determination and strength and proves life doesn’t stop because of a disability. I’ve heard the quote “There’s ability in disability,” which is now one of my favorite quotes.
