Brett Seiling
Biathlon | Cross Country Ski | Indoor Rowing | SVB | SwimmingBrett Seiling served his country for nearly 30 years, before he was medically retired due to
sarcoma, a rare form of cancer. He underwent numerous chemotherapy sessions, but always
remained positive. Eventually he had to have his leg amputated below the knee, but just two
months later he attended an AFW2 event to become an Ambassador and share his story. Since
that first event he has gone on to become an AFW2 mentor and is now representing the Air Force
at the Warrior Games Challenge. He said, “Adaptive sports has been a huge part of my recovery
and has shown me a pathway to being active and even able to compete again.”
What does the Invictus Games mean to you?
Competing in Invictus is the pinnacle of military adaptive sports competition. This will be the first time I’ve ever competed in winter sports and to do it representing the US in international competition is an amazing journey considering four years ago I was undergoing chemo and had my leg amputated. It’s a testimony to all the obstacles each of the athletes at Invictus have had to overcome to make their countries’ teams.
